Survey 68% of women believe they are equally paid Survey 68% of women believe they are equally paid New research from CareerBuilder ahead of Equal Pay Day, shows that 68% of women believe they are being paid the same amount of money as men at their company with a âsimilarâ professional background.Harris Poll surveyed more than 800 U.S. adult employees working full-time for ânon-government,â private companies (ânot self-employedâ) and more than 800 U.S. adult âhiring and human resource managersâ who also work full-time at private companies that arenât for the government or themselves.Here are some of the findings that stood out.Where people and employers stand on equal pay and salaryThe research found that a staggering 68% of women believe they are being paid the same as their male counterparts, while 31% donât think theyâre taking home the same amount and 1% think they make more.Just 22% of women (compared to 47% of men) think theyâll ever make six figures during their career and only 35% (compared to 17% of men) donât think theyâll score a salary exc eeding $50,000.Rosemary Haefner, CareerBuilderâs Chief Human Resources Officer, told Ladders that the pay gap is a pressing issue in the U.S.âIn our research, we found that over a third of women believe there is a pay disparity at their company, and that women tend to be less satisfied with career advancement and training opportunities,â she said. âMany employers are pledging to close the gap and taking concrete steps including digging into salary, bonus and promotion data, removing bias from the hiring and review process and actively recruiting a diverse workforce.âOverall, 94% of employers think American men and women should be paid equally, and 82% of employers think âtransparency of payâ should exist in this country. But 15% of employers reported that they donât believe women make the same amount of money âas their male counterpartsâ at their companies.Forty-two percent of companies think âproposed legislation that prohibits employers from asking job candid ates for their salary history will help close the gender pay gap since salary histories cannot be discussed,â according to the press release.What level men and women think theyâll reach in their careersThe survey also included a breakdown of where men and women think theyâll get in their professional lives.Almost a third of women (31%) believe they have âhit a glass ceilingâ at their workplaces. Just 9% of men and a staggering 25% of women think âentry levelâ is the furthest theyâll ever get. Other levels employees thought theyâd reach in their careers were as follows: 33% of men and 26% women think theyâll make it to a âprofessional/technical role.â 30% of men and 27% of women think theyâll make it to the âmanagerâ level. 12% of men and 10% of women think theyâll make it to âdirector.â 6% percent of men and 4% of women think theyâll make it to âSenior Management (CEO, CFO, CTO, etc.).â 4% of men and 2% of women think theyâll become a âVice President.â 7% of men and 6% percent of women think theyâll run their own company.
